Cell Imaging Policies and Scheduling

All users of this facility are asked to follow these guidelines. Equipment questions should be directed to facility staff.

No food or drink in the facility. For health and safety reasons, as well as to protect the many computer-assisted microscopy systems, this policy is necessary.

Scheduling. For each workstation in the facility there are sign-up sheets. All scheduling of instruments is done at the facility on sign-up sheets located as follows:

  • Confocal, laser scanning cytometer, sparky workstation, Olympus Bmax 50, microinjector and microvoxel workstation - outside A168
  • Dell workstation - inside A166
  • AFM - outside the AFM room door inside the facility
  • Jeol 1210 TEM and Jeol 300 SEM - outside A166B

The facility equipment is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After normal working hours, the facility is accessible through the Key Lock Code system. All equipment has a 15 minute rule which is as follows: If a person is signed up to use a piece of equipment and does not show up for the first 15 minutes of the time slot, another user may take the time slot. Users who know they cannot make an appointment should call 656-0813 to cancel. For those who would like assistance using the confocal, contact the facility personnel prior to signing up so that this can be coordinated.

Log Book. All pieces of facility equipment have a logbook. All users need to log all computer workstation time, laser scanning time, prints made, film used, etc. for each session. A budget number should always be listed for each session. Although this may seem redundant, please fill this in. It is critical for accurate billing.

Hard Drives. The hard drives must remain free for optimal use. Therefore, we ask that all images be saved to an optical or zip disk during collection or transferred to optical or zip disks at the end of each session and deleted from the hard drive. If you have questions about how to do this, contact a staff person. Both optical disks and zips disks are available for users at cost. The hard drive (C drive) is checked weekly and any images left on this drive are deleted without notice.
